New and Exciting Words Part Two!!

promulgate - enforce law by declaration
paroxysm - sudden outburst of emotion or action e.g. a paroxysm of laughter
louvre - one of a set of parallel slats in a door or window to admit air and reject rain e.g. louvred sunroof
plaintiff - a person who brings an action in the court of law. "plaintiff" is also known as claimant or complainant. The opposing side is called the defendant
tort - a civil wrong. a common tort is negligent operation of a motor vehicle
civil law - law that applies to private rights and duties (between individuals) as opposed to criminal matters. In a civil case, the claimant must prove their case "on balance of probabilities"
criminal law - is concerned with social order and protecting the community as a whole. criminal cases must be proved "beyond all reasonable doubt"
